New signage installed across Galson Estate

Urras Oighreachd Ghabhsainn is aware of a range of inconsiderate behaviours across Galson Estate, including both fly tipping and inconsiderate caravan and motorhome parking. In a bid to manage these types of behaviours, UOG has funded appropriate signage which has now been installed in locations across the Galson Estate.

Informed by official guidance from the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and working alongside appropriate Common Grazing Committees, UOG has supplied new signage at unofficial parking spots which are popular with motorhome and campervan users. The new signage both discourages parking on the fragile machair land and signposts visitors to official campsites in the area to encourage more considerate behaviour. Utilising official camping spots both invests in our local economy and protects our environment. A reminder to campervan and motorhome users that access rights do not include motor vehicles. In a bid to manage the disappointing fly tipping behaviour being carried out, UOG have also funded a suite of appropriate signs (pictured). Fly tipping describes the dumping of waste in the wrong place, and can be anything from a bin bag of household waste to large quantities of domestic, commercial or construction waste. Fly tipping is unsightly and can have dangerous consequences for the environment and for the people and animals on the land. Penalties for fly tipping can be serious; fixed penalties of £200 can be applied, and, if the case goes to court, someone convicted of fly tipping can be fined up to £40,000 and/or imprisoned for up to 12 months.
