Laughing, listening & making up – free workshop for parents & carers
As part of Sunnd, a free workshop looking at the science of laughing, listening and making up is taking place in Borve next week, and parents, carers, and anyone with an interest in family dynamics, are being invited to attend to learn from renowned expert, Dr Suzanne Zeedyk.
The Science of Laughing and Listening and Making Up, is an informal evening with Dr Suzanne Zeedyk, a research scientist fascinated by babies’ innate capacity to connect. She will share advice and tools to support families through a variety of situations and talk about thinking of laughing, listening and making up as essential skills for raising children. The talk takes place on Wednesday 19th February from 7pm at the Clan MacQuarrie Community Centre and is free to attend, although advance booking is required.
Dr Suzanne Zeedyk said: “I am so looking forward to meeting parents in the communities of Lewis. I believe everyone deserves to understand the discoveries that have been made within what I call ‘the science of connection’. This information makes lives easier, more relaxed and more fulfilling. I can’t wait to see where conversations during the evening will take us.”
Lindy Cameron-Saunders, Development Officer, Urras Oighreachd Ghabhsainn, commented: “Come and hear developmental psychologist Dr Suzanne Zeedyk explain how laughing, listening and making up work as skills and why they matter so much when it comes to raising a family. She has become well known throughout Scotland for her engaging, thought-provoking presentations on the science of relationships. She believes that all of us can get better at these skills, and she aims to boost our motivation for paying attention to them.
“Suzanne has an incredible ability to connect with individuals and share tailored, useful advice and tools that can really make a difference, and help us understand how to support our family, friends and the wider community. We’d encourage anyone interested in learning more about family dynamics and the science of human connection, to come along and learn from Suzanne. There will be the opportunity to ask questions, discuss the topics, or just sit back and listen, and tea, coffee and cake will be flowing! This promises to be an evening you’ll remember for a long time to come.”
Earlier in the day, 19th February, from 11am – 2.30pm, we are also hosting a Community Café and health and wellbeing event at the Clan MacQuarrie Community Centre.
Lindy added: “Our Community Cafe and health & wellbeing drop-in will feature a variety of organisations on hand to provide information and support to help keep you in tip top physical and mental health, including Warmworks home energy advisors, Citizens Advice Bureau, Penumbra Mental Health, Long Term Conditions Hebrides and many more. There will be homemade soup and soda bread, as well as teas, coffees and traybakes available for a small donation. This will be an informal and friendly event, and we hope that it will allow members of our community to access the support they, or their family and friends, require.”
